Day in Byron Bay14 juin 2014
This afternoon, we went to Byron Bay to meet with our CS friends, Lorena and Steve, for the school fundraising of their son's school, Sonny, in Newrybar.
But first we went for a walk to Cape Byron, our favourite place! Now it's whales season so we could spot a lot of whales offshore: on the horizon you see big splashes of jumping whales everywhere and closer to the shore, whales just breathing! It was really impressive to see so many whales everywhere!! It is like a highway for whales! We also saw two pods of 20 dolphins each, a turtle and a ray. Even when it's raining, it is still a beautiful place to go.
Around 4 pm, we arrived to the school and what a party: a big toboggan, a small merry go round, a car race (for kids), tombola, a music band, a bonfire (like les feux de la St Jean in France), fireworks and foods (so many delicious cakes :-)) It is very popular. We really enjoyed it. It was a great experience. All the money raised goes for the school: it helps to pay for an extra teacher, new equipment or a trip at the end of the year.
Then, we drove back home (which is only one hour away).
