This morning after breakfast, we took a local bus to get to the Halong Bay bus station and took another local bus at 11:30 am to get to Ninh Binh. The shortest way is normally 177 km, but it would have been too easy... We drove through small roads and stopped everywhere to take people. At the end, the bus was completely packed with people and luggages. Some passengers had to sit in the aisle on wooden columns the bus was carrying. We were the only western passengers, so it was a truly local experience and we felt sorry for Vietnamese people who have to travel like that all the time :-(
It took us 6 hours to get to Ninh Binh where we took a taxi to get to our hotel.
There, we had a lovely welcome (deeply appreciated). The place is beautiful, surrounded by karst mountains and paddies. We walked to the village (1 km) where we had dinner. We laughed a lot about the menu with its great French translation :-D
